The following video takes us through the journey of Estella, who did pushups for 100 days straight as a part of her GiveIt100 Challenge to become better at doing pushups and overcoming the self-consciousness about her body-image.
Estella says,
I still remember the days when I couldn’t do a single regular push-up. It seemed like I was “planking” on the floor for the longest time, all the time. One day I felt the satisfaction of finally being able to push my body off the ground and eventually was able to do a push up. That was about 4 years ago. Now, my goal has been to do push ups with good form and successfully attempt more advanced push-ups. I appreciate all your encouragement and feedback- I wouldn’t have learned as much as I did otherwise. Best of luck to you!
Giveit100 came into existence through the experience of its CEO and Co-Founder, Karen who taught herself to dance in a year. She realized the amazing benefits of repetition on how humans can learn a particular task or be better at something, when they are consistent and ship their task everyday.
When you watch someone perform or score the winning point – you’re only seeing a brief moment of glory. What you don’t see is thousands of hours of preparation. You don’t see the self doubt, lost sleep, the lonely nights working. You don’t see the moment they started. The moment they were just like you, wondering how they could ever be good.
We made Giveit100 for you to see that moment. Everyone starts a beginner. When I look back at old videos of my dancing – they’re so bad, I cringe. But I also feel something else: Woah. I’ve come a long way.
A child doesn’t notice when she’s growing taller. It’s the same way when you’re learning something. It happens so gradually, you hardly notice you’re getting better.
We made Giveit100 for you to capture the moment you start out, and every moment after that. One day you may look back and cringe. But that will be the same moment you realize: Woah. I’ve come a long way.
Karen’s words bring out an important point on how when beginners look at masters, they get the urge to reach that level of mastery at the earliest. But often, a beginner tends to overlook the journey of his master. This is an inspiring story that shows us the importance of focusing on the process at hand than hastening to get the end result.
Lots of goals and resolutions are being set every New Year. However, not all of them end up being accomplished.
Sometimes, it might not be the lack of motivation but sticking to your thing long enough. Showing up everyday, not because you have to but because you really want to become the person you want to be.
Developing a habit requires you to be persistent. #Giveit100 is a great way to first develop that persisting attitude which will allow you to incorporate the habit and conquer all your goals.
The only person that can stop you from becoming the person you want to be is you. You have full control over how your future will look like through the actions you take today.
Try repeating the habit you want to incorporate this year for straight 100 days and see the difference.
When you look back on Day 101, who knows, you could be the person who lost XX lbs, or wrote over 25,000 words, or perfected your piece of art.
What’s stopping you from becoming the person you want to be?
